New Planning & Development Services Director Named

(BOISE, Idaho) -- On Friday, Mayor David Bieter named Derick O’Neill as the city’s new director of Planning and Development Services (PDS).

O’Neill’s appointment needs confirmation by the City Council, who will be considering the appointment at a special meeting scheduled for noon on Tuesday, Nov. 6, in the Foothills Room at City Hall.

O’Neill has served as the CEO and President of the United Way of Treasure Valley for almost three years now.

New Boise Flagpole Monument to Honor Fallen Soldier

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A new Boise flagpole monument honors a fallen soldier, The Idaho Statesman reports.

The monument, which sits in the memorial garden of St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, located at 2618 W. Bannock St., honors U.S. Army Sgt. Chris J. Workman.

The 33-year-old soldier, who grew up in Rupert and lived in Boise several years ago, was killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan in April. He was assigned to the 25th Infantry Division's 25th Combat Aviation Brigade at Wheeler Army Airfield in Hawaii, the paper says.

All military and service personnel and veterans are invited to attend a dedication ceremony and luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11, which is Veteran's Day, according to The Idaho Statesman.

Inmate at Canyon County Jail Takes His Own Life

(CALDWELL, Idaho) -- In inmate at the Canyon County Jail has taken his own life, The Idaho Statesman reports.

A 29-year-old inmate who was serving a sentence for domestic battery reportedly took his own life late Friday night. The incident occurred about 10 p.m. at the Dale Haile Detention Center, also known as the Canyon County Jail, in Caldwell, the paper says.

No additional details were released. The investigation is ongoing.

Stabbing Suspect Arrested

(BOISE, Idaho) -- On Sunday morning, Boise Police arrested a suspect of stabbing a victim.

The incident occurred around 3:45 a.m., where several witnesses told police the suspect and an adult male victim were involved in an altercation at a party, located at the 1200 block of South Euclid Avenue.

According to witnesses, the suspect stabbed the victim multiple times with a knife.

The suspect fled the scene after the incident, and witnesses took the victim to a local hospital before contacting police.

Police arrested the suspect, Devin O’Brien, who will be charged with aggravated battery. He is being held at Ada County Jail.

Utah Man Arrested with 6 Pounds of Marijuana Headed to Prison

(CANYON COUNTY, Idaho) -- A 50-year-old man from Salt Lake City who was arrested in Canyon County with 6 pounds of marijuana will spend up to five years in prison, The Idaho Statesman reports.

Idaho State Police troopers stopped Bryan Lee Camp on Interstate 84 on April 28 for a traffic violation and discovered 5.7 pounds of marijuana in his vehicle.

Camp, who was been in the Canyon County Jail since his arrest, was handed his sentence on Monday. He will be eligible for parole after two years and will also pay $5,600 in restitution for investigative costs.

Camp now awaits transport to prison.

Boise K-9 Leads Officers to 18 Grams of Meth

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Boise K-9 led police officers to 18 grams of methamphetamine early Monday, The Idaho Statesman reports.

Officers were responding to a report of an argument between two people when they discovered that 31-year-old Danielle L. Davidson was wanted on a misdemeanor warrant for failing to appear in court. Kamo, a Boise police dog, then alerted officers to the possibility of drugs in Davidson's vehicle, where police discovered a glass pipe with meth residue, plastic baggies containing about 18.5 grams of meth, a small amount of marijuana and other drug paraphernalia, the paper says.

Davidson was booked into the Ada County Jail and faces a felony charge of delivery of a controlled substance, along with two misdemeanor drug possession charges.

Five Idaho Falls Residents Face Drug Trafficking Charges

(POCATELLO, Idaho) -- Federal drug trafficking charges have been levelled against five suspects from Idaho Falls.

Authorities said the charges, which include conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, have been filed against Fausto Enrique Urias, 31; Juan Carlos Garcia, 35; Marco Antonio Echeverria, 24; Misti Chapman, 29; and Erica Rodriguez, 32.

Urias, Garcia, and Chapman were arrested on Tuesday and will be arraigned on Wednesday; while Echeverria and Rodriguez are currently being held on state and local charges.

Shoplifting Suspect Arrested

(BOISE, Idaho) -- On Tuesday night, the Boise Police arrested a shoplifting suspect.

The police responded to a theft reported at a retail store, located at the 8300 block of West Overland Road at approximately 5 p.m. According to store employees, they witnessed the suspect concealing several items and leaving the store without paying for them.

The staff detained the suspect until the officers arrived, and the items were returned to the store.

Leilani S. Buhler, 32, is being charged for burglary and being held at the Ada County Jail.

School-Related Propositions Voted Against in Election

(BOISE, Idaho) -- According to the Idaho Statesman, a majority of voters said no to the school-related Propositions 1, 2 and 3.

Prop 1 was to have restrictions on teacher unions. Prop 2 was for teacher bonuses to be based on student test scores and other factors. Prop 3 was a mandate for laptops and online credits for all Idaho high school students.

Teacher unions spent over $3 million campaigning to defeat the Propositions.

Boise Man Accused of Sexual Acts with Minor

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A 28-year-old Boise man has been arrested and charged with engaging in lewd conduct with a minor under the age of 16.

Brian W. Thomas was arrested on Wednesday following into an investigation into a report made to police in August. Police said the alleged sexual acts took place more than once at different locations in Boise, starting in August.

Thomas is reportedly well-known to the victim.

Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Striking, Biting Home Healthcare Provider

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Police have arrested an 18-year-old man after allegedly striking his home healthcare provider in the head and biting him.

Police arrested Kevin D. Lewis after responding to a home in a Central Bench neighborhood around 5 a.m. Thursday. Lewis' home healthcare provider told police that Lewis hit him in the head with a coffee mug and bit him on the arm during an argument.

Lewis was arrested and booked into the Ada County Jail and charged with aggravated battery.

Police Arrest Man on Drug Charges after Traffic Stop

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Police have arrested a 28-year-old man on drug charges after a traffic stop in Boise.

Officers conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle with a bright light facing the rear of the vehicle near Veterans Memorial Parkway and Chinden Boulevard. After contacting the driver, police determined Anthony M. Deherrera was currently suspended from driving.

After a Boise Police K-9 named "Jaxx" alerted on the vehicle indicating a likely presence of drugs, officers recovered a small amount of meth, five hypodermic needles and a spoon with meth residue on it.

Deherrera was booked into the Ada County Jail and charged with possession of a controlled substance, driving without privileges and possession of drug paraphernalia.

FBI: 'AK-47 Bandit' May Have Struck in Idaho

(REXBURG, Idaho) -- Authorities believe the man dubbed the "AK-47 Bandit" has struck in Idaho, robbing a credit union in Rexburg on Wednesday.

The FBI and Rexburg Police are investigating a robbery at the East Idaho Credit Union in which a masked man armed with an assault rifle, entered the credit union, ordered employees and customers into a vault and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Investigators say the description of the suspect matches that of the "AK-47 Bandit" who has robbed several banks in California and Washington since February.

Veterans Day Parade Set for Saturday

(BOISE, Idaho) -- The public is invited to attend the Veterans Day Parade scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 10.

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at 10th and Jefferson in downtown Boise. The procession will run east to 4th, south to Bannock and then west back to 10th.

The parade is to honor all veterans past and present.

Whole Foods to Open in Boise Wednesday

The store is located on Broadway between Myrtle and Front and will include local produce and a large selection of craft beer and wine.

Boise Man Arrested on Drug Possession Charges

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A local man was allegedly busted with illegal drugs during a traffic stop in Boise early Monday morning.

A police statement said that shortly after midnight officers noticed a pickup truck pulling a trailer with expired license plates and conducted a traffic stop. Police said the driver of the pickup truck, Richard McDowell, 38, had two outstanding arrest warrants.

According to the police statement, with the help of a police dog officers also searched the vehicle and found three glass pipes and a plastic baggie with methamphetamine residue, as well as a plastic container with marijuana.

McDowell has been charged with possession of meth and marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police Arrest Woman on Assault Charges

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Boise police arrested a 41-year-old woman accused of attempting to attack two individuals inside a home over the weekend.

Officers responded to a noise complaint at a home in the area of S. Curtis Road and W. Kootenai Lane late Friday night. When they arrived, they heard yelling inside the residence. After investigating, police discovered that the suspect, Berna Cavalcanti Anderson, allegedly tried to attack two people inside the home with an edge weapon.

Anderson was arrested on two counts of aggravated asault and booked into the Ada County Jail.

Police Arrest Man Who Allegedly Stole SUV on Test Drive

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Police arrested a 36-year-old man who allegedly stole an SUV Friday afternoon.

The owner of a Chevy SUV for sale told police a potential buyer took the car on a test drive and never returned it. The suspect had left his driver's license with the vehicle's owner who gave it to police. The vehicle was located Friday evening in a driveway in Garden City. Police arrested Joey A. Tudi on a felony charge of grand theft.

The SUV was returned to its owner.

Two Drivers Escape Injury in Crash North of McCall

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Authorities are investigating a vehicular crash just north of McCall on Monday.

The two-vehicle collision occurred on State Highway 55 at milepost 150. Idaho State Police said a vehicle was headed north on the highway when its driver lost control of the vehicle because of slick roads, with the vehicle then crossing over into the southbound lanes and colliding with another vehicle.

There were no injuries reported.

Police Arrest 52-Year-Old Man on Drug Charges

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Police arrested a 52-year-old man on drug charges after receiving a tip that a man with an outstanding arrest warrant had just checked into a motel.

Police received the tip Monday afternoon that Julius A. Wray had checked into a motel on W. Fairview Ave. When officers arrived, they identified Wray as having an outstanding misdemeanor arrest warrant. Police then discovered that Wray was in possession of ten oxycodone pills, a schedule II drug, without a prescription.

He was booked into the Ada County Jail and charged with possession of a controlled substance.
