Nampa Man Caught with Marijuana

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Nampa man has been arrested after he was caught with marijuana.

The Ada County Sheriff's Office reports that 56-year-old Glen Alan Howe was arrested early Monday morning.

Howe was charged with marijuana possession, driving without privileges, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Horse Dies in Nampa Collision with Car

(NAMPA, Idaho) -- A horse died early Tuesday morning after it was involved in a collision with a car in Nampa.

Authorities said in published reports that the car and the horse somehow collided around 4:30 a.m. in the area of Karcher and Midway Roads.

The horse was killed in the collision and the car sustained significant damage.

The driver of the car managed to escape injury.

Twenty-Year-Old Arrested for DUI

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A 20-year-old from Meridian is in custody after driving under the influence.

According to the Ada County Sheriff's Office, Sanford Levi Carnes was arrested around 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

He was charged with driving under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as for warrants for probation violation. He remains in custody.

Boise Woman Arrested on Domestic Violence Charge

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Boise woman has been arrested Tuesday morning for domestic violence.

The Ada County Sheriff's Office reports that 22-year-old Cyle Dawn Debban was arrested on a domestic violence charge.

She remains in custody.

Idaho State Police Reminds Drivers of Dangers of Distracted Driving

(BOISE, Idaho) -- As April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, the Idaho State Police is urging drivers to be more careful and avoid taking their eyes or minds off the road.

Between 2010 and 2012, one of every three fatal or serious injury crashes were at least partially caused by distracted driving. Distracted drivers also caused 28 percent of the economic cost of the state's crashes.

The ISP considers distracted driving any activity that detracts from the driver's attention on the road. Among the distractions that they are urging Idahoans to avoid are use of cell phones, eating or drinking, talking to passengers, grooming, reading and watching videos.

Five-Year-Old Killed in Single-Car Crash

(LEWISTON, Idaho) -- A five-year-old was killed in a single-car crash Saturday night.

According to the Idaho State Police, 38-year-old Bianca Sekayouma had two children in the car as she was driving south on US-95 at 296. As she tried to drive around a curve, her car crashed into a utility pole The car rolled over several times, ejecting Sekayouma and both children.

Maya Martinez, just five years old, died from the accident.

Sekayouma and the other child, age 7, were hospitalized.

The crash remains under investigation.

Man Wanted for Robbery Is Caught After Fleeing from Cops

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Nampa cops have caught a man wanted for robbery after he tried to flee from authorities on Tuesday.

The Idaho Statesman reports that police tried to bring a warrant to 22-year-old Shane Tucker, who was wanted for a robbery. But when the police approached him, Tucker fled in a pickup truck, and soon crashed the truck into two parked cars. He then tried to flee on foot, but was detained.

Tucker was arrested and charged with robbery, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful entry, reckless driving, driving while suspended, and resisting arrest.

Possible Mountain Lion Sighting as Dog Attacked in Surprise Valley

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Fish and Game officers are investigating a Wednesday morning attack on a dog in Boise that left the animal injured.

Police said the dog was in the backyard of a home in the Surprise Valley area when a neighbor heard the four-legged pet yelp and continue to make noise. The dog was then found with a puncture wound and was taken to an emergency veterinarian for treatment.

Police said it's unknown what exactly attacked the dog, however, the incident happened around the same time a neighbor reported seeing what appeared to be a mountain lion in the area.

Meridien Man Indicted on Sexual Exploitation Charges

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Meridien man was indicted this week on charges that he sexually abused a child.

According to the Idaho Statesman, Robert Ramella, 39, was arrested on March 28 after he had arranged to meet a Boise teen at a mall. Ramella had used an unspecified smart phone app to communicate with the 16-year-old.

The 39-year-old faces three counts of sexual battery of a minor 16 or 17 years old, two counts of sexual exploitation of a child, one count of possession of sexually exploitative material and one count of dispensing alcohol to a minor.

The exploitation charges are related to "enticing and exchanging pornographic photos with a child," Meridien Police Lt. Mike De St. Germain told the Statesman.

During an investigation, police uncovered evidence that indicates Ramella may have had additional victims.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on April 15.

Mayor Bieter Announces 2014 Neighborhood Reinvestment Grants

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Mayor David Bieter announced on Wednesday that the city will award 41 grants worth a total of $288,812 to go towards neighborhood reinvestment programs.

According to a release from the Mayor's Office, the grants are intended to pay for physical improvements within each neighborhood that will serve to enrich the lives of citizens, enhance their quality of life and encourage a sense of community. Bieter added that "great neighborhoods are the foundation of Boise's high livability."

The funding is split into 24 capital grants worth $264,311 total and 17 smaller grants worth an additional $24,501. The release from the Mayor's Office provided a number of examples of projects that are expected to be funded, including bike racks in the Lusk Street neighborhood and an electrical upgrade in Borah Park.

Early-Morning Crash Leaves Boise Man Hospitalized

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Boise man was injured early Friday morning in a vehicular crash near Interstate 184.

Idaho State Police said Robert Coy was on a motorcycle exiting the Franklin Road on-ramp to I-184 when he failed to negotiate the corner of the ramp, leading to the vehicle crashing and Coy being ejected in the process.

Coy, 62, was taken to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in unknown condition.

The crash remains under investigation.

Police Release New Photos of Coffee Shack Robbery Suspect

Boise Police Department(BOISE, Idaho) -- Police released new photos on Friday of the man who robbed a Broadway Avenue coffee shop last weekend.

Sgt. Mark Barnett of the Boise Police Violent Crimes Unit says that he is "hopeful" that the new photos will provide new leads in the case.

On April 5, a man entered the coffee shack and demanded money, getting away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The new photos provide police with a better description of the man's appearance. Police updated their description of the suspect, saying that he is a light-skinned man, likely in his 20s. He is about 5-feet-9 inches tall and thin, clean shaven and wore sunglasses, a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS.

Miami Men Arrested for Use of Counterfeit Credit Cards

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A pair of men from Miami were arrested in Boise earlier this week after they attempted to make several purchases with counterfeit credit cards.

According to the Boise Police Department, Julio Jimenez, 54, and Andy Rodriguez Romero, 25, had gone to several businesses in the Boise area with the intent of using the fake cards to purchase merchandise. An investigation was opened, and on Wednesday the suspects' vehicle was spotted by on-duty police.

When officers stopped the vehicle, they found each of the two men with multiple counterfeit cards. Jimenez also had a fake New York driver's license.

The two men were arrested and charged with criminal possession of a financial transaction card.

Boise Man Arrested for Battery at Resort

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Boise man was arrested Sunday, accused of attacking an employee at a local resort.

Idaho State Police said Luke Shaber was arrested for alleged battery of an employee at the JR Simplot Lodge, which is located at the Bogus Basin Resort.

Shaber, 35, is also charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Motorcyclist Hospitalized After Crash on US-12

(LEWISTON, Idaho) -- A motorcyclist from Lewiston is in the hospital following a crash on US-12 Saturday afternoon.

The Idaho State Police reports that 22-year-old Brooks Lecates lost control while driving around a corner and was ejected from the motorcycle.

Lecates was taken to St. Joseph Hospital to be treated for his injuries. According to police, Lecates was wearing a helmet, but it came off during the accident.

Van Rolls Over on I-84

(BURLEY, Idaho) -- A van rolled over on I-84 Sunday afternoon.

According to the Idaho State Police, 32-year-old Vincent Feula was driving on I-84 east near Burley when he lost control and went off the right shoulder, causing the van to roll over.

Eight other people were in the van, all between the ages of 19 and 24.

The state police is investigating the crash.

Boy, 5, Hit by Truck While Riding Bicycle

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A 5-year-old boy remains hospitalized after be struck by a truck while out bike riding in Boise on Monday afternoon.

Witnesses told Boise Police that the boy and a 5-year-old girl were riding bicycles around 3:30 p.m. in the area of Fairview Avenue and North McKinney Lane. When the girl crossed Fairview, and the boy followed behind, he was hit by a large commercial truck.

The boy was taken to an area hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

The driver of the truck wasn't injured.

Teen Arrested for DUI, Marijuana Possession

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Boise teen has been arrested for driving under the influence and marijuana possession.

According to the Boise Police Department, 19-year-old Brandon Hollifield was pulled over on I-184 around 5 a.m. Sunday.

Hollifield was found to be driving impaired. Officers also uncovered about 3.6 ounces of marijuana in his car.

Hollifield has been charged with DUI and possession of marijuana.

Man Caught with Stolen Wallet, Marijuana at Traffic Stop

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Boise man was caught with a stolen wallet and marijuana at a traffic stop early Sunday morning.

According to the Boise Police Department, 30-year-old Robert Wilkinson was pulled over near South Vista Avenue and West Kootenai Street for not yielding at a left-hand turn.

Police found Wilkinson in possession of 12.5 grams of marijuana as well as paraphernalia including a scale, a marijuana pipe, and rolling papers.

Wilkinson also was in possession of a stolen wallet with seven financial transaction cards.

Wilkinson was arrested and charged with seven counts of grand theft, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

'Duffle Bag Bandit' Gets Five Years in Prison for Bank Robbery

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A man dubbed the "Duffle Bag Bandit" has been sentenced to five years in prison for robbing a number of banks.

Gerald Edward Massey was sentenced on Tuesday, after pleading guilty in January to bank robbery, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

The robbery occurred on March 6, 2013 at a U.S. Bank branch, located at 10700 Ustick Road. Officials said Massey, 57, also robbed three other banks between Dec. 2012 and Jan. 2013.
