Boise Man Busted for Cocaine Possession

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Boise man was arrested for cocaine possession during a traffic stop on Tuesday.

According to the Boise Police Department, 28-year-old Samuel Schoelkoph was pulled over near West Fairview Avenue and North Milwaukee Street for driving while suspended.

Police say a baggy with 4.9 grams of cocaine was found inside the car.

Schoelkoph was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance - cocaine, driving without privileges, and failure to provide insurance.

Improperly Disposed Ashes Cause Garage Fire in Boise

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Firefighters responded to the scene of a structure fire on Tuesday after ashes cleared from a fireplace were improperly disposed of in a residential garage.

According to the Boise Fire Department, firefighters arrived on the 1400 block of East Rimrock Court at about 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday and found flames on the home's garage.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly, though not before significant damage was caused to the garage.

Two people were home at the time of the blaze, but were unharmed.

Investigators said that ashes cleaned from a fireplace were placed in a plastic bin in the garage. The bin caught fire, and the flames spread to the garage's sheetrock.

Boise Man Arrested for Reckless Driving, Breaking into House

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Boise man was arrested on Tuesday after he reportedly crashed his vehicle into a pair of cars and broke down the door of a nearby residence.

According to the Boise Police Department, Rodney Scrivener, 48, crashed into another car, then drove through a residential yard, striking a fence and a second car.

After parking on the grass in front of a home, Scrivener then kicked in the front door of the residence, where he was confronted by a resident. Scrivener struck the resident before attempting to flee, but he was restrained by police.

During the arrest, the 48-year-old struck one of the officers.

Scrivener is charged with battery on a police officer, malicious injury to property, battery, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and unlawful entry.

Boise Cops Make Quick Arrest in Bank Robbery

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Quick work by Boise Police led to an arrest in a robbery that occurred at a local bank on Wednesday afternoon.

Daniel Fisher, 42, allegedly fled with an undisclosed amount of cash after robbing a bank, located inside a retail store on the northwest corner of West Franklin Road and South Orchard Street shortly after 1:30 p.m.

After receiving a tip, police went to a motel near the Boise airport around 8:30 p.m. and arrested Fisher in connection with the heist. Fisher has been charged with robbery.

Woman Reportedly Kicks Cops When Arrested for DUI

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A woman is in custody after allegedly driving under the influence and kicking police officers.

According to the Boise Police Department, 34-year-old Jennifer Wood was pulled over Tuesday night for changing speed, failing to signal, and moving out of the driving lane.

Wood reportedly failed field sobriety tests and kicked an officer when she was placed under arrest. Police say she kicked an officer again at the jail.

Wood was arrested and charged with DUI, two counts of battery on a police officer, and resisting and obstructing.

Police say this is Wood's third DUI within 10 years.

Man Busted for Drug Possession

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A man was arrested on drug possession charges Tuesday night.

Boise Police say 27-year-old Kevin Wheat was found in possession of 19 MDMA pills, a glass pipe containing methamphetamine, two bottles of steroids, and other drug paraphernalia.

Wheat was arrested on charges including possession of a controlled substance, possession with the intent to deliver, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Boise Man Arrested on Third DUI Charge

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Boise man was taken into custody on his third DUI charge on Wednesday.

According to the Boise Police Department, 24-year-old Christopher Olearain was pulled over on West Front Street near South 13th Street for driving with expired registration tags.

Olearain reportedly failed field sobriety tests and his breath alcohol check registered at .174/.167.

Police say Olearain had a suspended license and a warrant for his arrest. He also reportedly had two prior DUI convictions in the past 10 years.

Olearain was arrested and charged with DUI, driving without privileges, and probation violation.

Rollover Crash Slows Traffic on I-84

(JEROME, Idaho) -- A rollover crash is slowing traffic Friday morning.

The Idaho State Police reports that a car rolled over on Interstate 84 near Jerome.

No one was injured in the collision.

Drivers should expect traffic delays as only one eastbound lane of I-84 is open following the acccident.

Idaho's Unemployment Rate Takes a Dive

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Idaho wrapped up 2013 with a decline in unemployment, according to figures released by the state's Department of Labor on Friday.

The department said that in December 2013, Idaho's unemployment rate stood at 5.7 percent, down from 6.1 percent the previous month.

At the national level, the unemployment rate fell from 7 percent to 6.7 percent over the same period.

Boise Police Announces Partnership with Social Media Site

 (BOISE, Idaho) -- The Boise Police Department is taking to social media as part of its effort to keep the city safe.

The department announced Monday that it has formed a partnership with Nextdoor.com, which is a social media platform used to help share information and educate residents on improving public safety.

"Neighbors who know each other, who communicate with each other and who communicate with their local police department make for safer neighborhoods," Deputy Chief William Bones said in a statement. "About 100 Boise neighborhoods are already using Nextdoor.com. We’re hearing from folks it’s time we joined in."

Boise Fire Crews Extinguish Duplex Fire

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Boise firefighters extinguished a structure fire at a West Boise Duplex on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Boise Fire Department, the fire was reported just before 4:30 p.m. after a passerby spotted smoke.

No residents were found inside and the fire crews were able to put out the flames quickly.

The heat and smoke caused "considerable damage" to the two residences. An investigation is underway into the cause of the fire.

Man Arrested After Breaking into Vehicle, Stealing Accessories, Change

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Boise man was arrested on Saturday night after he allegedly broke into a vehicle and stole a number of car accessories and loose change.

According to the Boise Police Department, John Holt, 26,was spotted braking into a vehicle near North Allumbaugh Street and West Preece Lane at about 7:20 p.m. on Saturday. The witness told police that Holt broke into a vehicle and stole a Batman bench seat cover, a headrest cover and $8.39 in change.

Police responded to the citizen call and successfully located Holt. The 26-year-old was arrested and charged with felony vehicle burglary.

Boise Woman Busted for Meth Possession

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Boise woman has been arrested for methamphetamine possession.

The Boise Police Department reports that when probation and parole officers searched the home of 37-year-old Jennifer Englesby, she was found in possession of meth, pipes, and a scale with meth on it.

Englesby was arrested and charged with possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.

15 Boise Establishments Failed Alcohol Compliance Check

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A weekend alcohol compliance check found that nearly one-in-five Boise establishments that were checked served alcohol to underage drinkers.

According to the Boise Police Department, the check was conducted on Saturday night and found that 16 out of 87 locations failed to comply with underage drinking laws.

Included in the tally of failed locations were 15 establishments in the Boise area. One individual was even caught with a false identification at an event at the Powerhouse Event Center.

The BPD issued citations for serving alcohol to a minor, failure to have required server training, underage employees selling and serving alcohol, serving alcohol without checking identification and underage drinking.

Two Arrested on Drug Charges Following Monday Traffic Stop

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Police arrested a pair of Boise residents on drug charges Monday afternoon after a traffic stop.

According to the Boise Police Department, a patrol officer pulled over a driver at about 1:45 p.m. near South Curtis Road and West Overland Road. The driver had committed a moving violation.

A records check found outstanding warrants for Michael Walker, 24, the passenger.

As police took Walker into custody, they found evidence of illegal drug possession.  A search of the vehicle found 1.55 ounces of marijuana in small baggies and a digital scale.

Walker and the driver, Laneva Roderick, 21, were arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Three Hospitalized After Crash on I-84

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Three people were hospitalized after a car crash on Interstate 84.

The Boise Police Department reports that a car hit a street light at 2:35 a.m. on Tuesday, knocking the pole into the roadway.

Afterward, several cars reportedly hit the street light and collided with each other. A semi truck also hit the pole and crashed through the barricade between the eastbound and westbound lanes.

Police say three people from the truck were sent to the hospital.

The crash is under investigation.

Mountain Lion Injures Dogs in Boise Foothills

(BOISE, Idaho) -- The Idaho Department of Fish & Game are warning hikers after two dogs were attacked by a mountain lion in the Boise Foothills on Monday.

A Boise man in his 20s was riding his mountain bike when his two dogs -- a 45-pound husky mix and a 45-pound bull terrier mix --  were attacked by the animal.

The man jumped towards the mountain lion, throwing rocks at it and yelling loudly, eventually scaring it away.

The man was uninjured and the two dogs, while injured, are expected to recover.

According to the department, hikers, runners and mountain bikers should be extremely diligent in the area near Bogus Basin Road along the Corrals Trail.

Officials were unable to locate the mountain lion.

Boise Woman Arrested for Causing Injury to Child

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A 25-year-old Boise woman surrendered herself to police on Tuesday and faces felony charges for causing injury to a child.

Boise Police Department detectives were notified of a child with severe injuries at a local hospital. After an investigation, detectives determined the injuries were caused by Saadia Omar.

The victim is well known to Omar. Police placed the child and two of the child's siblings under protective custody.

A warrant was issued for Omar's arrest on Jan. 24.

Store Employee Caught Reportedly Faking Returns, Pocketing Cash

(BOISE, Idaho) -- An employee from a retail store was arrested for reportedly faking returns with customer receipts.

According to the Boise Police Department, Ross Winningham, 19, an employee at a store on the 2700 block of South Broadway Avenue, reportedly rang customer receipts into the register as a return and kept the money.

Police say three of the returns reportedly took place over two days, making this a felony crime.

Winningham was arrested and charged with grand theft.

Nineteen-Year-Old Arrested for Stealing Makeup

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A 19-year-old was arrested for reportedly stealing makeup.

According to the Boise Police Department, 19-year-old Saige Weremecki of Boise reportedly stole makeup from a grocery store on the 100 block of East Myrtle Street on Tuesday.

Weremecki was arrested and charged with burglary.
