Boise Bike Theft Suspect Arrested in Arizona

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A man wanted in connection with a series of bike thefts in Boise, has been arrested in Arizona.

Luke Christopher Cross was arrested on Wednesday in Mesa, Ariz. Authorities will now seek to have him extradited to Boise, where he's wanted on charges of grand theft, aggravated assault and malicious injury to property.

Boise Police believe Cross, 29, is linked to a recent rash of bike thefts that began in mid-September. Cross is also accused of being involved in a violent encounter at a local pawn shop on Nov. 1.

Two Hospitalized After Rollover Crash on I-84

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Two people are in the hospital following a single-car rollover crash on Interstate 84 on Wednesday.

According to the Idaho State Police, 49-year-old Lonnie Haggard was driving west on I-84 when he lost control of his car, causing it to go into the median and roll over. The passenger, 43-year-old Leah Mulvany, wasn't wearing a seatbelt at the time and was ejected from the car.

Both victims were taken to St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Boise to be treated.

Teen Killed in Single-Car Crash in Marsing

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A teenager was killed in a single-car crash in Marsing on Wednesday.

According to the Idaho State Police, 16-year-old Ethan Anderson drove off the right side of the road as he was turning a corner on South Bruneau Highway.

Anderson and the two passengers were ejected from the impact.

Police say one passenger, 15-year-old Michael Sterkenburg, died from his injuries.

Anderson and the other passenger, 14-year-old Devan Anderson, were treated at the scene.

According to police, none of the teenagers were wearing seatbelts. State police are investigating the crash.

Boise Police Increase DUI Patrols During Holidays

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Boise Police are stepping up patrols on the roads for the holiday season.

The Boise Police Department says beginning Friday it will be joining with other agencies throughout the state to work to help keep roads safe for holiday travelers.

"Our message this holiday is to think before you drink and to plan ahead for safe transportation if you plan to drink alcohol, not only this holiday, but all the time," Boise Police Officer Dave Frederick said in a statement.

Officials say there will be increased DUI patrols from Dec. 20 through Jan. 3.

Boise Man Arrested on Marijuana Trafficking Charges

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Boise man was arrested on Thursday after a traffic stop led to a search of his vehicle and drug charges.

Officers stopped the vehicle driven by Ryan Camargo, 21, after he failed to come to a complete stop at South Columbus Street and West Targee Street. While speaking with Camargo, police began to suspect that there may be illicit drugs in the vehicle.

Camargo consented to a search of his car, and officers found 14.2 grams of marijuana and a digital scale. Camargo was arrested on charges of trafficking marijuana and booked at Ada County Jail.

Idaho Unemployment Rate Sees Largest Single-Month Decline Ever

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Idaho's seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 6.1 percent in November, the state's largest single-month decline ever.

The Idaho unemployment rate dropped by 0.6 percent, which is double the rate of decline seen in the national average.

Approximately 3,800 more Idahoans were at work in November, as unemployment hit its lowest level since the spring of 2012.

The state unemployment rate remains below the national figure.

Mayor: Bethine Church Will Be Missed but Never Forgotten

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Boise Mayor David Bieter says Bethine Church, the widow of former Idaho Senator Frank Church who died Saturday at the age of 90, will be missed, but won't be forgotten.

On Sunday Mayor Bieter issued a statement saying that Bethine Church would be remembered as someone who lived a remarkable Idaho life.

"She was a great unifier, the true politician in the family, who helped Senator Church bring Idaho together and introduce it to the world," Bieter said. "She had a lifelong passion for improving the lives of ordinary people, a quality that never waned, even after her husband's far too early death."

Her son Chase Church said his mother "passed peacefully listening to Christmas music and looking at a Poinsettia and candle. She wasn't in any pain and she always wanted to pass at home and not at a hospital or care center."

Two Women from Oakland Arrested for Using Fake Credit Cards

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A pair of Oakland women were arrested in Boise on grand theft charges after they were caught using allegedly stolen credit cards.

Keara Grimes, 23, and Lareesia Lindsay, 24, were accused of purchasing multiple gift cards using credit cards that the Boise Police Department says "appeared fraudulent." Police believe the pair fraudulently used the cards on both Thursday and Friday of last week.

It was later determined that the credit cards in question were fake and the card numbers were stolen.

Grimes and Lindsay were already in police custody for unrelated incidents. Police believe that the two traveled from Oakland to Boise for the purpose of committing retail theft.

Boise Man Arrested After Trying to Slip Unknown Liquid into Woman's Drink

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Police arrested a 22-year-old Boise man on drug charges on Sunday.

According to the Boise Police Department, officers working foot patrol were approached by the bouncer of a nightclub who said that he had witnessed a man trying to slip something into a woman's drink. The bouncer had taken the bottle from the man and gave it to police.

Logan Mallard, 22, was identified as the suspect by at least one witness. Officers then conducted a search of Mallard's person and found three bags filled with about 40 pills. The pills later tested positive for ecstasy.

Mallard was arrested on charges of delivery of a controlled substance and booked at Ada County Jail.

Boise Police: Colorado Man Caught with $7,500 in Counterfeit Bills

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Colorado man has been arrested  by police in Boise, for allegedly passing counterfeit $100 bills.

Roque Stuart, of Denver, Colo., was arrested on Monday and charged with forgery. Boise Police say Stuart, 57, was found with $7,500 in counterfeit 100 dollar bills when he was arrested.

The arrest comes after a counterfeit bill was passed at a local retail store on Sunday afternoon, and later discovered by a bookkeeper.

"Store employees called police and were able to find store security images that identified the man who passed the fake bill," Boise Police said in a statement.

Kuna Man Arrested for Second DUI

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Kuna man has been arrested for driving under the influence for the second time within 15 years.

According to the Boise Police Department, 31-year-old Charles Decorte was pulled over for failing to stop at a red light Sunday afternoon.

Decorte reportedly had glassy and bloodshot eyes and was slurring his speech.

Police say Decorte was arrested and charged with felony DUI due to his previous DUI conviction.

Meridian Man Arrested for Drunk Driving

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Meridian man was arrested for felony DUI after allegedly driving under the influence early Monday morning.

According to the Boise Police Department, 38-year-old Derrick Ray was pulled over for swerving into other lanes of traffic.

Police say Ray was exhibiting signs of being under the influence and that his breath alcohol sample was in excess of the legal limit.

Due to a previous DUI conviction in 2009, Ray was arrested and charged with felony DUI.

Boise Man Injured in Christmas Day Crash in Ada County

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Boise man was injured in a crash in Ada County on Christmas Day.

The one-vehicle crash happened on Idaho Highway 21 near mile post 12. Idaho State Police say 19-year-old Abdulmajeed H. Abdulmajeed was driving a car north on the highway when the car ran off the road and went down an embankment.

Abdulmajeed, 19, was taken to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center for treatment to injuries sustained.

The crash remains under investigation.

Grandview Highway Crash Kills One

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A 23-year-old man was killed in a rollover crash  on Tuesday.

Cody Cover, of Grand View, lost control of his car while traveling east on State Highway 78 near Grand View around 8:45 a.m. He died at the scene of the crash, according to Idaho State Police.

Cover was not wearing his seat belt.

The eastbound and westbound lanes of the highway were blocked for approximately three hours while crews worked to clear the site.

The crash is still under investigation.

Idaho Tops State List of Wireless-Only Households

(BOISE, Idaho) -- More than half of Idaho citizens live without landlines, according to a report from the Center of Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics.

Idaho comes in as the number-one state where people rely solely on cellphones, with 52.3 percent of adults living in a wireless-only household.

Mississippi came in second with 49.4 percent, followed by Arkansas. Data showed lower-income states had the highest share of wireless-only homes, while northeastern states ranked further down on the list.

Idaho also came in at number one with the highest prevalence of wireless-only children, at 62.2 percent.

One Person Injured as Multiple Vehicles Collide in Pocatello

(POCATELLO, Idaho) -- A multi-vehicle crash in Pocatello on Thursday afternoon resulted in one person being hospitalized.

The crash happened shortly after 4 p.m. on the Benton Street overpass. Idaho State Police say an unoccupied Pocatello Police vehicle was stopped, as an officer assisted a person with a disabled pickup truck. A Pontiac Grand Am then reportedly crashed into the rear of the police vehicle, sending the latter vehicle crashing into the pickup truck.

Officials say following this, another police vehicle was providing assistance with the crash, when another Pontiac Grand Am crashed into the second police vehicle, with a Toyota Camry then slamming into the rear of the second Grand Am.

The driver of the Camry was taken to an area hospital with unknown injuries.

State Police say vision obstruction due to the setting sun was a contributing factor to the crashes.

Semi Crash, Diesel Spill Shuts Down Fairview Avenue

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Idaho State Police are investigating a crash on Fairview Avenue that injured one and blocked four lanes of traffic for over six hours Friday.

The driver of a pickup failed to stop at a stop sign around 3:41 a.m., entering the intersection of Fairview Avenue and Hartman Street. Burgundi Bateman, 30, of Idaho Falls, struck a semi pulling a single-box trailer, driven by Scott Earls, 46, of Meridian.

The tractor and trailer both fell over, blocking four lanes on Fairview, according to police reports. Diesel leaked from the tanks, spilling onto the avenue. The area was closed over the course of six hours as vehicles were removed and the spill was cleaned up.

Bateman was taken to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. She was not wearing her seatbelt. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, according to police.

The incident is still under investigation.

Meridian Barn Burglar Is Arkansas Fugitive, Used Different Name

(MERIDIAN, Idaho) -- A man arrested late last week after he was found hiding in a Meridian barn was discovered to be an Arkansas fugitive.

Michael Anthony Kinser, 27, who said he was from Kuna, was using a false name. His true identity is Larry Andrew Goodine, a 37-year-old from Arkansas.

Upon his arrest, he had an Arizona driver's license with his photo, but the other information belonged to the real Michael Kinser, who had died in 2012, according to the Idaho Statesman.

Goodine had been using the false identity for several years. In mid-December, he broke into a barn near Ustick and Linder roads to steal scrap metal.

Boise Police Make 26 DUI Arrests, Continue Increased Patrols

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Boise police made 26 DUI arrests in Ada County this past weekend, a number significantly higher than on a "typical weekend."

The Boise Police Department says that they made 15 DUI arrests between Friday, Dec. 27 and Sunday, Dec. 29. Meanwhile, Ada County, Meridian, Garden City and Idaho State police made a combined 11 DUI arrests.

The BPD says that a typically, they make about 10 DUI arrests.

Between the Christmas and New Year's holidays, Boise police are taking part in a statewide effort to increase DUI patrols. The patrols will continue until Jan. 3.

Nearly 100 Residents Take Part in Free Breath Alcohol Testing

(BOISE, Idaho) -- About 100 Boise residents took advantage of free breath tests provided by the Boise Police Department in recent days in an effort to curb drunk driving.

The BPD reports that "almost all those who took the tests told officers they were actually more impaired than they realized." Boise police officers found breath alcohol levels ranging from 0.0 to 0.212 -- nearly three times the legal limit.

The BPD offered a $5 coupon for a cab ride in exchange for participation.

Police have stepped up patrols in an effort to curb alcohol-related crashes, as alcohol is a factor in nearly 40 percent of fatal crashes in Idaho.
