Man Arrested for Drug Possession After Traffic Stop

(BOISE, Idaho) -- When Boise Police pulled over 35-year-old Raul Diaz, the driver of a vehicle that had unregistered license plates, they discovered illegal drugs and paraphernalia.

Diaz, who was driving with a suspended license, was cited for driving without privileges and fictitious display.

Police received consent and searched the vehicle's passenger, Edgar Perez, 19. Perez was found to be in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine, marijuana, and two pipes used to smoke illegal substances, according to the police report.

Perez was booked at the Ada County Jail.

Caldwell Man Charged with DUI After Traffic Stop

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Caldwell man has been arrested by Boise Police on charges of driving under the influence and possession of an open container of alcohol.

Raul Flores, 45, was held during a traffic stop on Saturday night. Boise Police say officers observed a vehicle speeding in an easterly direction on Interstate 84 near Curtis. After pulling over the vehicle, police say its driver, Flores, was found to be intoxicated with him then failing several field sobriety tests.

Police say they also found an open bottle of beer in the vehicle.

Boise Man Busted for Allegedly Stealing Safe with Cash

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Boise man was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly stole items belonging to a victim who police say is known to the suspect.

Boise Police say they found Dustin Armstrong, 35, at a parking lot in the area of Pierce Park and State Street on Saturday morning and in his possession was a small safe that belonged to the unidentified victim. The safe reportedly contained financial documents and cash belonging to the victim.

Armstrong has been charged with grand theft and parole violation charges, following the alleged incident.

Former Government Employee Sentenced for Theft

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A former employee of the Bureau of Land Management was sentenced Monday to one year in prison for theft of government property.

Katrina Telleria, 35, pleaded guilty in December after she was caught using her government-issued credit card to purchase general-use gift cards. Telleria then stole the gift cards, a total value amounting to $71,973, according to the Idaho Press-Tribune. The judge also ordered her to pay back that total in restitution.

According to the Press-Tribune, Telleria, who was employed by the BLM from 2008 until 2011, was authorized to use her government-issued credit card for purchases that include an incentive gift card program for the Boise District Office Fire Program.

Police Arrest Man on Burglary Charges

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Police arrested a 21-year-old man on burglary charges Saturday.

Officers were called to a retail store in the 8100 block of West Franklin Road at about 3 p.m. Store employees told police they witnessed the suspect conceal merchandise and then exit the store without paying. Police believe the suspect entered the store with the intent to commit the theft.

Cameron E. Lee Desind was arrested and taken to the Ada County Jail and booked on felony burglary charges.

Man Arrested for Hitting Man in Stomach with Piece of Wood

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Police arrested a 48-year-old transient man Monday afternoon who allegedly used a large piece of wood to hit a man in the stomach.

Officers were called to N. 15th and Front Streets at 1:04 p.m. by witnesses who reported a fight in progress. Police found evidence that the suspect, James G. Martin, used wood to hit an adult male in the stomach, according to a police report. The victim told police he wanted to press charges against Martin, who was then arrested.

Martin was booked into the Ada County Jail on felony aggravated battery charges.

Crash on I-84 Injures One Man, Blocks Highway for 10 Hours

(ADA COUNTY, Idaho) -- Idaho State Police officials said a crash involving a semi truck and a car injured one man and blocked a stretch of Interstate 84 for almost 10 hours, The Idaho Press-Tribune reports.

A freightliner truck reportedly jack-knifed near milepost 71 just after 10 p.m. Monday evening and blocked two lanes of traffic. The driver of the truck was hit by a car as he directed traffic, the paper says.

The man was flown to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. His condition is not known, according to the Press-Tribune.

Cops Dish Out Dozens of Citations During Traffic Exercise

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Dozens of people were cited for speeding and seat belt violations during a recent enforcement exercise across Idaho.

The enforcement effort was carried out Feb. 8-17, through a partnership involving the Idaho Transportation Department, Idaho State Police and other law enforcement agencies across the state.

Idaho State Police say 148 citations were dished out for seat belt/child restraint violations; 200 citations were given out for speeding; and 74 motorists were found to be driving without the required insurance.

Meridian High School Students Sent Home after Power Outage

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Students at Meridian High School were sent home for the day Wednesday after the school lost power to the main building, The Idaho Statesman reports.

Officials at the school said that construction seemed to have caused the outage at the school, located at 1900 W. Pine Ave., which is currently in the middle of a five-year renovation plan. The power went out shortly before 9 a.m. when all 1,500 students were in class. Fire alarms were triggered and caused students to be evacuated from the building, the paper says.

Classes are expected to continue as scheduled on Thursday, according to The Idaho Statesman.

Pair Arrested on Drug Charges After Cops Search Local Home

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Two Boise residents were arrested on drug-related charges on Wednesday after officers executed a search warrant at a local home.

Boise Police say, after receiving a tip, officers executed the warrant at the home on the 2500 block of South Barrington Lane on Wednesday morning where items such as syringes, pipes and packaging materials with meth and marijuana residue were allegedly found.

Police say while the officers were there, Joey Thomas, 34, arrived at the home and was arrested after allegedly being busted with a prescription pill, a pipe and marijuana seeds.

Also arrested during the exercise was Carrie Voss, 42.

Both suspects face charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Man Arrested on Burglary Charge

(BOISE, Idaho) -- A 24-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly burglarizing a vehicle.

Zachary R. Watkins was seen by witnesses going through a vehicle located in a parking lot on the 100 block of South Cole Road at approximately 1 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Boise Police Department.

The owner of the vehicle was able to provide information about the suspect to police, which led officers to the suspect’s residence. A stolen music device was recovered.

The suspect is being held in Ada County Jail.

Former Day Care Worker Sentenced to 32 Years for Lewd Conduct

(CANYON COUNTY, Idaho) -- A 23-year-old former day care worker, who pleaded guilty last year to multiple counts of lewd conduct with a minor under 16, was sentenced on Thursday to serve 32 years to life in prison.

Joshua Ritchie told the court about his own childhood abuse from a relative and expressed remorse for his own crimes, according to the Idaho Press-Tribune.

The victim’s family was at the sentencing on Thursday, the paper reports.

Idaho State Historical Museum to Open New Exhibition Tuesday

(BOISE, Idaho) -- The Idaho State Historical Museum will be celebrating the 150th anniversary of the creation of Idaho by presenting a new exhibition on Tuesday.

The special exhibition is entitled Essential Idaho: 150 Things that Make the Gem State Unique.

This major exhibit is one of the largest ever shown at the museum and features rare artifacts, hands-on learning stations and compelling stories about the state.

Stolen Checks Lead to Arrest of Boise Woman

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Stolen checks previously recovered from a Boise home led to a local woman being arrested on Thursday.

Boise Police say on Feb. 21 a search was carried out at a home on the 3100 block of West Neff Street and eight stolen checks were recovered from the residence.

An investigation then led to the owner of the home, Colleen Mask, 27, being arrested on Thursday, on charges of grand theft and failure to appear warrants.

Boise Fire Department Promotion Ceremony Set for Wednesday

Boise Man Charged with DUI After Crash

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Boise Police have charged a local man with Driving Under the Influence and other charges following a vehicular crash over the weekend.

The crash happened around 7 p.m. Saturday, as police say a pickup truck slammed into a fence on the 12000 block of West Fairview Avenue.

According to a police statement, officers responded to the scene and upon opening one of the vehicle's doors, a pipe containing spice fell from the pickup truck. Police say the driver, identified as Timothy Gorman, 31, was found to be under the influence of an intoxicating substance, and failed several field sobriety tests.

Gorman was arrested for DUI, probation violation charges, possession of spice and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police Searching for Driver in Scooter Accident

(NAMPA, Idaho) -- Police are asking for assistance in finding a driver who fled the scene of a scooter crash Saturday night.

According to the Idaho Statesman, police were called to the scene of the crash around 7:45 p.m. on Saturday. The preliminary investigation showed the scooter and a white car were travelling in opposite directions on 12th Avenue Road in Nampa at the time of the crash.

After the crash, the car fled west on East Sherman Avenue, witnesses told police.

Nampa Police are asking anyone with information to call (208) 468-5608.

Sheriff's Deputy Arrested After Second DUI

(LEWISTON, Idaho) -- A Nez Perce County Sheriffs deputy was fired over the weekend after he was charged with driving under the influence for the second time.

Jay Colvin, 38, was previously arrested for DUI in 2011 and was sentenced to probation and community service after pleading guilty.

Colvin's most recent arrest came in January after an Idaho State Police trooper pulled him over for failing to signal during a lane change. Colvin received two blood alcohol tests at the time of his January arrest. Both tests came back with blood alcohol levels over the legal limit of 0.08.

Colvin has pleaded not guilty to the latest charge.

Boise Police Investigate Suspicious Death at Hotel

(BOISE, Idaho) -- Boise Police are investigating a suspicious death at a local hotel.

Police say they were called to the hotel on the 1600 block of Main Street around 7 a.m. Tuesday. The call prompted an investigation into a suspicious death.

A police statement did not give any further details about the victim or the cause of death.

Investigators say they are interviewing a person of interest.

Police Arrest First Suspect in Fatal Stabbing

(GOODING, Idaho) -- Police in Gooding say that one of two suspects in a fatal stabbing on Sunday was arrested in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Two men were sought by police after an apparent stabbing victim, Alejandro Perez Lopez, was dropped off at North Canyon Medical Center early Sunday morning. According to the Idaho Press, surveillance video in the area had helped police identify the suspects.

Police told the Press that the suspect in custody will go through formal extradition and will eventually be returned to Idaho. Police believe the second suspect also fled the state.

Gooding Police Chief Jeff Perry told the Press that he expects both suspects' names to be released on Tuesday.
