(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Washington state resident was killed Wednesday in an Interstate 84 crash near Caldwell.
Idaho State Police conducted a traffic stop of a 2004 Dodge Caravan around 2:05 p.m. The driver, Gerardo Pena Garza of Othello, Washington, was given a verbal warning.
Garza reentered traffic after the stop and continued eastbound when the same trooper observed his vehicle make an abrupt turn and drive off the roadway, through a median, and into oncoming traffic. The car made a stop in a marshy area and upon arrival, the officer found Garza unconscious.
Garza was transported to West Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
The incident is under investigation by Idaho State Police.
