(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Mountain Home, Idaho, man was arrested on Sunday after he was pulled over and was found in possession of methamphetamine.
According to the Boise Police Department, Charles Kiesser, 34, was stopped by patrol officers for failure to signal when turning. During the course of the traffic stop, a K9 unit alerted on Kiesser. Officers then conducted a search and found one gram of methamphetamine and a glass pipe.
Both the methamphetamine and the residue on the pipe field-tested positive, and Kiesser was taken into custody. He faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Motel Staff Helps Catch Occupant in Possession of Meth
(BOISE, Idaho) -- Staff at a Boise motel helped catch a customer, who was in possession of methamphetamine.
According to the Boise Police Department, the staff at a Boise motel called the police Friday evening after they found a bag of drugs and a glass pipe in a room.
The drugs tested positive for meth.
Police arrested the room's occupant, 26-year-old Brandy Dunaway. Dunaway was charged with possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Federal Inmate at Ada County Jail Dies
(BOISE, Idaho) -- A federal inmate was found dead at Ada County Jail on Tuesday, prompting a Sheriff's Department investigation.
The man was not publicly identified, but the Idaho Press-Tribune reports that he began to show signs of having ingested large amounts of methamphetamine early Tuesday morning. He was taken to a nearby hospital shortly after 1:30 a.m. and was pronounced dead at 4 a.m.
The Press-Tribune says that the man had an unidentified substance in his stomach, and that further tests are pending. The man did test positive for amphetamines and marijuana.

State Senate Panel Passes Sobriety Testing Bill
(BOISE, Idaho) -- A state Senate panel passed a bill that would allow Idaho judges to require twice-daily alcohol breath testing for certain individuals on probation.
The bill is sponsored by Luke Malek, a Republican representative from Coeur d'Alene. The legislation will now go before the full Senate, and if passed and signed by Gov. Butch Otter, would allow judges to demand more rigorous testing of individuals convicted of drug or alcohol crimes.
According to KIVI, Boise's ABC affiliate, the bill could allow those individuals to retain their driver's license while on probation.

Boise Man Held After Hit-and-Run Collision
(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Boise man has been arrested on numerous charges following a hit-and-run collision on Monday night.
Witnesses reported that a vehicle struck two other vehicles that were parked shortly before 11 p.m. on the 6500 block of West Fairview Avenue. The car then fled the scene.
Police said after getting a description of the suspect vehicle from witnesses, they were able to track down the vehicle that had allegedly fled the scene, with officers then trying to conduct a traffic stop on it. However, the driver, identified as 26-year-old David Knapp, allegedly refused to stop, and led officers on a pursuit, before eventually being taken into custody.
Knapp was charged with DUI, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, and leaving the scene of an accident, among other charges.

Two Caught Trying to Sell Items Stolen in Burglary
(BOISE, Idaho) -- Police arrested a pair of homeless individuals on Monday after they allegedly attempted to sell stolen items.
According to the Boise Police Department, Thomas Arzon, 29, and Kasaundra Boyce, 19, are believed to have been involved in a March 1 burglary near West Bannock Street and North 16th Street.
In the initial incident, residents of the home told police that an unknown person or persons had broken through a front window and stolen several items while the house was empty.
Officers caught the two suspects on Monday afternoon, and found them allegedly attempting to sell some of the stolen items.
Boyce is accused of breaking into the home in the initial burglary while Arzon is accused of acting as a lookout. Arzon faces charges of accessory to burglary and accessory to grand theft while Boyce faces burglary and grand theft charges.

Boise Man Arrested on Aggravated Battery Charges
(BOISE, Idaho) -- Police arrested a Boise man on aggravated battery charges after a disturbance on Tuesday night.
According to the Boise Police Department, Michael Angeletti, 44, allegedly beat up another man, knocking out his tooth, on Tuesday night.
Police charged Angeletti with felony aggravated battery, because the battery "caused permanent disfigurement," in the form of a lost tooth.
The victim and suspect knew each other prior to the dispute, police say.

Eleven Indicted on Drug Trafficking Charges
(BOISE, Idaho) -- Eleven people have been indicted on charges for their alleged roles in a drug distribution ring in Boise.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, James Acarregui, Jordan Baptista, Andrew Colwell, Travis Fraser, Jordan Grainger, Jared Hicks, Jeffery Manchester, Ellen McDaniel, Austin Serb, Christopher Snyder, and Kekai Wachi were all indicted.
The suspects face charges of conspiracy to distribute oxycodone and heroin, distributing oxycodone, and distributing heroin.
According to the indictment, the 11 are accused of conspiring between Sept. 2012 and March of this year, to distribute oxycodone and heroin. The indictment also alleges that on various occasions since August 2013, one or more of the suspects distributed oxycodone or heroin in Idaho.

Boise Firefighters Rescue Man from Smoke-Filled Apartment
(BOISE, Idaho) -- Boise firefighters rescued a man on Wednesday after he passed out in his smoke-filled apartment.
Neighbors reported heavy smoke coming from an apartment on North 14th Street just before 9 p.m. on Wednesday. When firefighters arrived at the scene, witnesses told them that the resident of the apartment wouldn't come out.
Firefighters found the man lying on a bed in the bedroom and brought him outside. Paramedics believe he was intoxicated, but he did not require hospitalization.
Fire crews determined that the smoke came from a cloth-covered chair in the apartment, with the flames sparked by fireworks that the man likely lit inside. The only damage done was to the chair.

Garden City Man Arrested in Connection with Weekend Stabbing
(BOISE, Idaho) -- Police arrested a 30-year-old Garden City man in connection with a stabbing last weekend.
According to the Idaho Statesman, Shawn Marcum was taken into custody at a Boise motel on Thursday morning.
Marcum allegedly stabbed a 46-year-old Boise man in the chest just after midnight Saturday in Garden City.
Marcum was arrested with Faith Delgado, 25, who is accused of destroying evidence and harboring a fugitive in aiding Marcum.

Boise Police Officer Suspended Following Arrest
(BOISE, Idaho) -- A Boise police officer has been suspended following his arrest early Friday morning.
The Boise Police Department has issued a statement saying that officer Gary Miller was arrested following a domestic disturbance at an east Boise home shortly before 5 a.m. Friday.
Miller, 43, is charged with assault and domestic violence.
Miller is a 16-year veteran of the Boise Police Department. He remains suspended pending an internal department investigation.

Knife-Wielding Man Robs Boise Electronics Store
(BOISE, Idaho) -- A man armed with a knife robbed a Boise electronics store on Friday morning.
Witnesses told the police that the suspect entered the West Overland Road store at about 11:20 a.m. on Friday. The man, armed with a knife, made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspect was described as a light-skinned man between 35 and 40 years old. He had a shaved head and a tattoo running from his neck to the top of his head and a number of moles and warts on his face. He was wearing a dark blue windbreaker-type jacket and jeans at the time of the robbery.

Idaho Unemployment Rate Drops for Fifth Consecutive Month
(BOISE, Idaho) -- The Idaho unemployment rate dropped for the fifth consecutive month, falling two-tenths of a percentage point to 5.4 percent.
According to the Idaho Department of Labor, the jobless rate for January was the lowest the state has seen since September 2008. In the last year, the state's unemployment rate fell by 1.3 percent.
Each of the last five months has seen a state record for total employment. About 1,300 more new workers were hired in January than in January 2013.

Hockey Fans Sue CenturyLink Arena, Claims Beer Price Scam
(BOISE, Idaho) -- Five hockey fans are suing CenturyLink Arena, home of the Idaho Steelheads, insisting they were cheated on beer purchases.
The group discovered that the $7 "large" beer had about the same amount of brew as the $4 "small" beer. The large container was tall and narrow while the small was shorter and wider.
The group is seeking $10,000 in damages based on attending at least 30 events over the past three years at the arena.
CenturyLink Arena has not commented.

Pedestrian Fatally Hit by Car on Highway 48
(IDAHO FALLS, Idaho) -- A pedestrian was fatally hit by a car on Highway 48 near Roberts on Saturday.
According to the Idaho State Police, 65-year-old Allen Clayton was walking on a paved portion of Highway 48 when he was struck by a car.
Clayton was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
The driver, identified as 23-year-old Timothy "Shawn" Meier, reportedly swerved to try to avoid a collision.
The crash remains under investigation.

High Winds Blow Off St. Patrick's Day Parade in Twin Falls
(TWIN FALLS, Idaho) -- The City of Twin Falls has cancelled its St. Patrick's Day parade due to inclement weather.
The parade was scheduled to kick off at noon on Monday, however, City officials have announced that due to high winds, the parade and related outside events have been cancelled.
As a result, there won't be any parade-related street closures in the downtown area on Monday.
The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for Twin Falls and surrounding areas until 6 p.m. Monday.

Amur Leopard Euthanized at Zoo Boise
(BOISE, Idaho) -- The Zoo Boise population decreased by one on Monday, as an Amur leopard was euthanized.
The zoo issued a statement saying that Nadia, the leopard, was euthanized after her health had deteriorated in recent days, and she did not respond to veterinary treatment.
"Nadia’s quality of life had declined to the point where euthanasia was the proper thing to do," Zoo Boise Director, Steve Burns, said in a statement.
Two years ago Nadia had been diagnosed with chronic renal failure.
Nadia was nearly 19 years old.

Meridian Woman Arrested for DUI After Car Crash
(BOSIE, Idaho) -- A Meridian woman has been arrested for reportedly driving after taking Xanax and drinking alcohol.
According to the Boise Police Department, 53-year-old Gretchen Lee crashed at the intersection of North Cole Road and West Franklin Road.
Lee had reportedly taken Xanax pills and drank alcohol before the crash.
Due to a previous DUI arrest, Lee was arrested and charged with felony DUI.

Man Caught with Meth After Running Stop Sign
(BOSIE, Idaho) -- A Boise man has been arrested after he was caught with methamphetamine at a traffic stop.
According to the Boise Police Department, 52-year-old Darrell Cremer was pulled over for running a stop sign near West Overland Road and South Orchard Street.
Cremer was taken into custody when officers found he was in possession of about one gram of meth.

Police Arrest Albuquerque Man for Using Fraudulent Checks
(BOISE, Idaho) -- Police arrested a, Albuquerque, N.M. man on Monday after he was accused of using counterfeit checks at a Boise store.
According to the Boise Police Department, 36-year-old Gregory Mackay passed four suspicious checks at an unidentified store on North Eagle Road.
Detectives pieced together evidence from clerks at the local store and clerks from the same chain of stores in Albuquerque, N.M. to identify Mackay as the suspect.
Detectives located Mackay on Monday afternoon and took him into custody without further incident.
During his arrest, Mackay was found to have a small amount of methamphetamine in his possession. He was charged with two counts of felony burglary, two counts of possession of forged checks and possession of a controlled substance. Additional charges may be filed, the BPD says.
