(BOISE, Idaho) -- Boise Police are warning of a recent scam targeting citizens via email and telephone, threatening victims with arrest if they don't provide financial information.
"These scams are hitting hard...all over southwest Idaho," according to a statement from police.
An incident reported Thursday by the Payette Police Department prompted Boise authorities to issue the alert. Payette Police received a call from a woman who claimed she received an email allegedly from the United States District Court, labeled as an arrest warrant.
The sender stated she could call and make a settlement "before there was any trouble at her home or her job," according to officials. Shortly after, the email was followed up by a phone call from an individual who notified the victim she had two hours before police came to arrest her.
Police advise residents not to give out personal or financial information over the phone and contact local enforcement agencies of any incidents.
